As a 25+ year old Japanese import with no UK-spec equivalent, rust is the primary concern. Rear arches, sills, floor pans, front chassis legs, and suspension turrets are all vulnerable areas that can deteriorate significantly.
Japan's salt-free winters mean many imports arrived rust-free, but UK weather takes its toll quickly. Structural corrosion may not be immediately visible without a thorough inspection from underneath.
A full ramp inspection is essential. Check rear arches (inner and outer), sills, floor pans, chassis legs, and suspension turrets. Bubbling paint on arches is a warning sign. Any structural rust should be assessed by a specialist before purchase.

Every EK9 in the UK is an import. The import paperwork, SVA/IVA test certificate, and V5C details should all be checked carefully. Clone cars and incorrectly documented imports exist in the market, and provenance is critical at these price points.

At 25+ years old, all rubber bushings will have deteriorated. Front lower arm bushings, rear trailing arm bushings, and anti-roll bar links are the most commonly worn items. Worn bushings affect handling precision, which matters on a car built for it.
