Wet timing belt failure

The 1.2 PureTech engine uses a timing belt that runs in engine oil instead of a traditional dry timing belt. The belt material degrades in the oil environment, with failures occurring well before the original 150,000-mile service interval. When the belt breaks, it destroys the entire engine as these are interference engines.
