How to Check Mitsubishi Service History Before You Buy

You can check a Mitsubishi's franchised dealer service history online using just the registration number. Here is what Mitsubishi service records show and why they matter more than ever now that Mitsubishi has stopped selling new cars in the UK.

£6.99 · Records from 2012 onwards · Full refund if no records found

Mitsubishi dealer service records are stored digitally and can be checked online by entering the car's registration number. The check pulls records from Mitsubishi's franchised dealer network, showing every service visit, the mileage at the time, and what work was carried out. With Mitsubishi having pulled out of new car sales in the UK and Europe, the dealer network has shrunk significantly, which makes these digital records even more valuable. Physical service books get lost; digital records persist. The check costs £6.99 with a full refund if no dealer records are found.

Mitsubishi service history: key facts

What does a Mitsubishi service history check show?

For each Mitsubishi dealer visit, you will see the date, recorded mileage, the servicing dealer, and what work was carried out. This covers routine oil and filter services, major inspections, brake work, recall visits, and warranty repairs.

The mileage from each service is plotted alongside the car's MOT history on a timeline chart. This cross-reference lets you verify the odometer reading against independent data. If the mileage does not match up, the report flags it. On an L200 that may have done heavy commercial miles, or an Outlander PHEV that ran as a company car, this mileage verification is particularly useful.

How often should a Mitsubishi be serviced?

Mitsubishi recommends servicing every 12 months or 12,500 miles, whichever comes first. This applies to the Outlander, ASX, Mirage, L200 and Eclipse Cross.

The Outlander PHEV has specific hybrid service requirements on top of the standard schedule. The plug-in hybrid system includes a high-voltage battery, two electric motors, and a petrol engine that may run infrequently depending on how the car is used. If the car was primarily driven on electric power for short commutes, the petrol engine may have spent long periods idle, which creates its own maintenance considerations. Coolant systems for the battery pack, inverter checks, and brake fluid changes are all part of the PHEV service schedule. The service records should confirm these were carried out.

The L200 is Mitsubishi's pickup truck, commonly used commercially. High mileage is normal for an L200, but that makes regular servicing even more important. The 2.4-litre diesel engine needs its oil and filters changed on schedule, and the four-wheel drive system benefits from regular attention. Service records on an L200 tell you whether it was treated as a maintained work tool or simply run into the ground.

Does Mitsubishi independent servicing void the warranty?

No. Under UK law, Mitsubishi cannot void your warranty for using an independent garage. The work must meet Mitsubishi's specification and follow the correct schedule, but you can choose any garage.

This matters more for Mitsubishi than most brands. With the UK dealer network shrinking since Mitsubishi stopped selling new cars in Europe, many owners have had to switch to independent garages simply because their nearest Mitsubishi dealer closed. Independent services will not appear in Mitsubishi's digital dealer records. If the records show dealer servicing that stops abruptly, it may be because the local dealer closed rather than because the owner stopped servicing the car. Ask the seller for independent garage invoices to fill the gap.

Why does Mitsubishi service history matter for resale?

Mitsubishi's withdrawal from new car sales in the UK has created an unusual dynamic in the used market. There are no new Mitsubishis to replace the used ones, which means well-maintained used examples hold their value better than you might expect for a brand that has left the market.

The Outlander PHEV was enormously popular as a company car thanks to its low benefit-in-kind tax rate. Thousands were registered by fleet operators and are now filtering through to the used market. Full service history is important here because it confirms the hybrid system was properly maintained. A PHEV battery that was never given its scheduled checks is a risk that buyers will price in. Expect 5-10% more for an Outlander PHEV with full records.

The L200 is a workhorse, and buyers shopping for a used pickup want proof of maintenance. These trucks often rack up serious mileage on farms, construction sites and motorways. Full service history on an L200 separates a well-kept working vehicle from one that was simply used hard and never looked after.

The Lancer Evolution is a collector car. Production ended in 2016 and prices have been climbing since. Full service history on an Evo adds a significant premium, particularly on low-mileage examples. The turbocharged 2.0-litre engine, four-wheel drive system and active differentials all need specialist maintenance, and buyers in this market will scrutinise every service entry.

How much does missing service history cost on a Mitsubishi?

Missing service history on a Mitsubishi typically reduces the value by 5-10%. The percentage is consistent across most models. The Outlander PHEV sits at the higher end because hybrid system maintenance is a genuine concern for buyers, and service records are the only way to prove it was done.

The Lancer Evolution is an outlier. Missing service history on an Evo can cost significantly more than 10% because the buyer pool is small, knowledgeable, and risk-averse. These cars are appreciating assets, and buyers treat them accordingly. No records means no sale to a serious collector, which pushes the car into the hands of bargain hunters who will pay less.

With the Mitsubishi dealer network continuing to shrink, digital service records become more important over time, not less. A physical service book stamped by a dealer that no longer exists is harder to verify than a digital record that lives in a central database. Checking the digital records now, while they are still accessible, is a sensible step for any Mitsubishi buyer.
