Is this the same as MOT history?
No. Free MOT history shows roadworthiness test results and basic mileage readings. A service history check shows whether the car has been properly maintained between MOTs - oil changes, brake fluid, filters, major services. A car can pass every MOT and still have significant deferred maintenance. We cross-reference both data sources.
Where does the data come from?
Official Digital Service Records from manufacturer databases. The same records franchised dealers see when they service a car. We cross-reference with DVSA MOT data for mileage verification.
What if the car was serviced at an independent garage?
Independent services are not recorded in manufacturer databases. If no records are found, the car was likely serviced independently. Ask the seller for a physical service book. You will not be charged if no records are found.
What happens if no records are found?
Your payment is automatically refunded. You will see confirmation on screen. The refund typically appears within 5–10 business days.
How is this different from an HPI check?
Different questions. An HPI check covers outstanding finance, write-offs, and theft. A service history check covers whether the car has been properly maintained - services done on time, what work was performed, and what is due next.
