The Espace demonstrates severe issues with steering ball joint wear, failing at 6.9 times the national fleet average according to MOT data. This affects all engine variants and becomes particularly problematic from 60,000 miles onwards. The heavy MPV weight and tall centre of gravity place exceptional stress on the steering linkage, causing premature wear of the ball joint sockets and increased play in the steering system.

Worn ball joints cause imprecise steering, vehicle wandering, and uneven tyre wear. In severe cases, complete failure can result in loss of steering control. The vehicle should not be driven if excessive play is detected.
