The N20/N26 petrol engines suffer from dual timing chain issues: the primary timing chain tensioner fails allowing chain stretch, while the oil pump drive chain can break causing immediate loss of oil pressure and engine seizure. This affects 2012-2014 models most severely, with failures occurring without warning between 40,000-100,000 miles. The oil pump chain failure is particularly dangerous as it provides no advance symptoms before complete lubrication failure.
