Engine options on the L405 include the 3.0 TDV6/SDV6 diesel, the 4.4 SDV8 diesel, and the 5.0 V8 Supercharged petrol. Each has its own service-related vulnerabilities.
On the 5.0 Supercharged, the critical items in the service records are the supercharger snout seal (£800–£1,200 if it fails; listen for whining or squealing from the supercharger), the coolant crossover pipe on the V8 (£500–£1,000; a plastic pipe that deteriorates and leaks coolant into the engine valley), and general supercharger health. Being a new generation, the L460 doesn't yet have the long track record of known failures that the L405 and L322 have. The Ingenium six-cylinder is a proven engine from other JLR applications. The BMW V8 is well-regarded. The main things to verify in the service records are that services have been completed on schedule (annual or 16,000 miles), that any recall work has been carried out, and that software updates have been applied. On PHEV models, service records should show that the battery conditioning and high-voltage system checks have been performed.
